Food additive
  • Phosphoric acid (additive E338) is used to acidify foods and beverages such as colas. It has a tangy or sour flavour. As leaveners, several phosphoric acid salts, such as monocalciumphosphate, are utilised.
Rust removal
  • To remove rust, use phosphoric acid directly to damaged iron, steel tools, or other surfaces. Although liquid phosphoric acid can be used for dipping, phosphoric acid for rust removal is usually manufactured in the form of a gel. As a thick gel, it may be applied to sloping, vertical, or even overhanging surfaces. The formulations of phosphoric acid gel are advertised as "rust removers" or "rust killers."
Medicine
  • In dentistry and orthodontics, phosphoric acid is used as an etching solution to clean and roughen the surfaces of teeth where dental equipment or fillings will be put. Phosphoric acid is also included in over-the-counter anti-nausea medications that contain a lot of sugar (glucose and fructose).
